Awaken Your Body Massage & Bodywork was closed for several months due to Covid-19 safety concerns. At the end of July I was approved by the Marin County Health and Human Services Department to return to work. This decision was based on the fact that I work alone with one client at a time, as well as the type of work that I do, which is primarily structural, postural, working with clients who were originally referred to me by physical therapists, chiropractors, orthopedists, etc, post accident, post surgery or suffering from acute or chronic physical discomfort.

I have reviewed and I follow safe operating procedures suggested by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, CAMTC (California's Massage Permit Council), ABMP (my liability insurance company), as well as other sanitizing and Covid-19 safe operating information.

The following is a list of my safety protocols:

In Studio:

Before your appointment:

  • I will have a new intake form that everyone will be required to fill out before your appointment. I will email it to you so you will have time to take care of that. It must be returned before your session.

  • I am requesting that payments be done ahead of time via my online Square account. This will allow us to have fewer handheld exchanges. I am still happy to take cash, checks or credit cards at the time of appointment, if that's more convenient for you.

  • Please try to come into the office as "clean" as possible (ie, fresh clothes & hair, as much as is possible).

  • If you will be booking appointments in the coming months, please try to limit your socially distanced circle (12 people or fewer is an official guideline). If you are working, etc and are exposed to more people than this, please just let me know so we can discuss our "plan".

  • If you travel outside the Bay Area, please have a conversation with me before coming in for an appointment so we can discuss whether or not we need to honor a "waiting period".

  • If you test positive for Covid, it's important that I know this, as there could be potential issues with blood clots.

Upon Arrival:

  • I will schedule more time between appointments to allow for disinfecting the surfaces, as well as for “social distancing” purposes. I will be asking you to please not enter the waiting room when waiting for your session to begin. Instead, please wait in your vehicle or outside until 10 minutes before your appointment.

  • At that time, I will come outside to greet you to take your temperature with a medical grade non-touch thermometer and open the restroom door for you. Please practice proper hand washing at this time (20 seconds) and open the door to exit the restroom by using a paper towel. ***I will not have restroom keys available for people to handle on their own.***

  • Once inside the studio, please remove shoes.

  • I will provide a clean, disposable face mask for use during your session.

  • I will also have hand sanitizer, should we need it.

  • Please leave as many personal items as possible at home or in your vehicle.

During Session:

  • I will still provide water in individual bottles. You are welcome to bring your own bottle, if that is more comfortable for you.

  • I will have a silicone face cradle protector over the face cradle and a silicone table protector over the table warmer and fleece table cover, underneath the clean sheet, which can be wiped down/disinfected after each client.

  • I am temporarily removing heavy blankets from the table. I will still have heat packs for you, if you’re cold (with clean cases for each client). I will double up the top sheets to provide warmth . I will also have a few clean blankets on hand for those of you who run cold.

  • I will ask you to wear your mask throughout your session. I will be wearing one as well. Masks must remain on and covering both your nose and your mouth the entire time that you are in the treatment room and the waiting room area, even when changing into and out of clothes.

  • My massage oil and lotion are already in single use distribution bottles, so they are safe.

  • Linens are professionally and safely laundered.

  • The air purifier will be on all day and the filter changed periodically.

  • I will have a Molekule UV Air purifier in the treatment room. This a quote that was emailed to me from them:

“Also, Molekule’s PECO technology has been demonstrated to capture and destroy        airborne viruses, including testing of proxy viruses for novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-      2) and influenza. While we have not tested on SARS-CoV-2 specifically, Molekule             devices do meet the performance criteria recommended by the FDA guidelines for         use in reducing exposure to SARS-CoV-2 in healthcare settings. That said, no air             purifier can promise to prevent you from getting a virus. We strongly recommend that     you review information provided by the CDC and other official sources for information     and resources related to COVID-19.”

Between Sessions:

  • All door handles will be wiped down.

  • All soiled sheets will go directly into the laundry service pick up bag, which will be stored by the front door.

  • The table will be completely wiped down, including face cradle and legs.

  • I will temporarily replace the treatment room chair with a solid chair that can be more easily disinfected. There will also be paper liners on the chair.

  • The client side table and my desk will be wiped down.
